Buffalo State’s School of Education partners with FranklinCovey as a Leader in Me/LEAD Training Center and in the Educational Leadership Program.
Based on Stephen R. Covey’s book The Leader in Me, schools engage in a process that emphasizes leadership development of staff and students as much as academic success, seamlessly integrating leadership into the curriculum, activities, and culture. The benefits are profound, meeting the needs of the whole child, developing 21st Century Skills such as initiative and collaboration, and finally engaging students to use their unique gifts to better their school and their world. Buffalo State has become the first outside training center for FranklinCovey’s The Leader in Me/LEAD school process. Local districts and individual schools will now be able to work directly with Buffalo State to become certified as Leader in Me/LEAD Schools. Schools may contact CEURE, the School of Education or BOCES for further details.
It has long been known that strong, effective school leadership is a critical component of successful pre-K to grade 12 schools. However, simple capability in management is not enough to turn around a struggling school; great leaders need to continuously focus on the development of their own character and competence.
Now Buffalo State incorporates FranklinCovey’s principle-based leadership development process into the mandated coursework leading to a recommendation for New York State certification in school building and school district leadership. It is anticipated that the addition of the Covey focus on integrity, trustworthiness, and personal effectiveness will help Buffalo State graduate school leaders who are able to apply these frameworks and tools to engage others to successfully achieve the goals of their schools and the school districts. Please contact the Buffalo State School of Education to obtain more information about this unique school leadership program or for admissions procedures.
