Since IACB’s inception, we have worked with over 2075 Buffalo Public School (BPS) elementary students to further their knowledge of college and creating a college –going culture. Over 71 teachers, and numerous teacher assistants, have been trained in the new Next Generation Science Standards and the latest in mathematics strategies and techniques through a series of professional development sessions. Teachers received a multitude of the latest science and mathematics materials and equipment for their classrooms as well as an I am College Bound resource book of college-going materials and college awareness teacher’s guides and student materials from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
BPS students received science books, mathematics materials, the latest instruction from their teachers, Buffalo State professors, and Buffalo State teacher candidates related to the new NYS Next Generation science curriculum, and visited Buffalo State’s campus. While attending a daylong campus session, they attended workshops, presentations, took tours, and participated in science and math activities. They had lunch with the faculty and athletes in the Resident Dining Hall, Assembly Halls, and received additional books, backpacks, notepads, pens, pennants, tee shirts and information for parents. BPS students also received college awareness materials and advise from Admissions faculty. In the spring of 2015, BPS students and parents visited special exhibits at the Buffalo Science museum and the Buffalo Zoo. Parents have received science and college awareness materials.
