Marian de Forest
Marian de Forest was born in Buffalo, NY on February
27, 1864. She died on February 17, 1935 at the Buffalo General Hospital.
Marian was an editor and a playwright.
Marian was a critic and an editor in the Women's Department of The Buffalo
Express for 20 years, now known as The Buffalo News. Because
she was so talented, she became city editor of The Buffalo Commercial.
She wrote the play "Little Women," which was performed in Buffalo and New
York City. The play opened in 1919 at the New Theater in London, England.
It was a big success because it helped Katherine Cornell, an actress, become
famous.
The Zonta is a service organization of the executive women to improve the
status of the world wide. Marian found the Zonta on November 8, 1919
at the Hotel Statler. Buffalo has chartered the Zontas of many surroundings
on November 8, 1996 and it is still active today.

Marian de Forest was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. She is important because
she was the city's woman leader and had a successful career. In October, 2001,
Marian was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls,
New York
