Urban Digital Video Project

The advent of streaming video has made it practical for pre-service education students to see and hear genuine teaching behavior streamed on the Web. In conjunction with web-enhanced instruction tools that serve as mechanisms for feedback and discussion (in this case, Blackboard), students can observe teaching practice and engage in discourse about it, all online.
Participating students (enrolled in EXE 375, Technology in Special Education) are sent into schools with digital camcorders to film experienced teachers as they conduct lessons. Back on campus, the students use iMovie II software from Apple to edit the entire lesson down to a 3-minute clip that somehow exemplifies a particular learning principle or teaching strategy. The clip is posted onto this site where it can be accessed by the entire class. The student who created the clip posts a brief critique of the lesson on the class's Blackboard site and other students in the class are asked to respond to both the clip and the critique.
